Edinburgh Lochend Butterfly Urban Regeneration

RIBA competition entry for a mixed use sustainable urban regeneration scheme for the Lochend Butterfly in Edinburgh.

Located just east of the Royal Mile, the site is land-locked by housing, retail sheds, train tracks and parkland.

The proposal seeks to create a main link through the site from north to south, accommodating a guided rail system and giving access for cars to the site. A large mixed use leisure block spans this route, linking across to the existing retail sheds. An urban block structure consists of mixed use residential/retail/commercial buildings centred around streets, squares and courtyards.
